Takes the conclusions of some research at face value without taking the implications to the next level For example the recommendation of fish for one purpose but without sufficient consideration of other factors taking into consideration ocean pollution Considering that Dr Li doesn t have the army of knowledgeable supports as does Michael Greger this is understandable and it is why How Not to Die is a far superior offering on this complicated subject. Immunity is a complex process and William Li explains clearly how this works I found his book most interesting and helpful, providing detailed information about dietary approaches and evidence for what works to ensure good health This is an excellent book, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Super detailed but very interesting You ll need to WANT to read this book I had to take notes It s the sort of book that will come on very handy should you fall ill A normal healthy diet is the preventative measure but it s worth reading to see where your diet sits presently A lot of us probably think our diets are ok but could be better I found I was already eating a good range from the recommended groups but it s why illness hits that this info will really help Treating health problems with a good nutrition program will definitely help healing and go hand in hand with other treatments It s worth buying. Really useful I m applying the info in this book,it has changed the way I see food and therefore the way I live. You have to work your own way through this book, I don t think it s an easy read, and I think the dietary changes and optimisation of diet will come over timeas I get familiar with the principles he s sharing.Well worth while, intelligent, doesn t talk down to you, it s got findings from oodles of scientific studies so you can see where he s coming from and understanding health through the concept of the body s 5 defence systems is a true illuminating light bulb moment.I m still head scratching a bit in terms of actually living the regime, getting the balance right and I m not totally clear about the amount of veggies etc you need to chomp through to get the benefit.Great stuff probably the best book I ve bought on health and diet Buy it. Is your diet feeding or defeating disease We are at a turning point in our understanding of how to prevent and fight disease Rates of cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity and other common health problems are skyrocketing However, the latest scientific research and clinical evidence is revealing that the power to protect ourselves against these threats and resist them lies in a simple solution the foods we eat everyday In Eat to Beat Disease, Dr William Li explains that your body was designed to fight threats like these and we have radically underestimated how food can be used to amplify this hidden power Your body has five natural defence systems that, if functioning well, can protect you angiogenesis growing new blood vessels , cell regeneration, the microbiome, DNA protection and immunity The healthy working of each has been found to be intimately connected to the foods we eat and the findings are sometimes surprising Discover Why scientists think drinking hot cocoa boosts stem cells crucial for your body s regeneration The role of cheese and wine in maintaining healthy gut bacteria Why drinking coffee lowers your risk of dyingRevealing thanfoods that you can incorporate into your life today to help you live longer, Dr William Li proposes a simplexxframework, inviting you to choose five foods and eat them five times a day, to fortify your five defence systems It is not about dieting or cutting out it is about having the confidence to incorporate the healthy foods you already love into a plan for life long change It could save your life This book should be in every school part of the national curriculum to Eat to beat disease Delivered on time and in accordance with the product description This book could have been printed on three or four pages Interesting background, but not for most of the book, unless you really need to know Many people will only be concerned with the list of recommended foods. To be honest, when I first got this book I was both overwhelmed and a bit disappointed My first reaction was there is too much to read, I just want a book that quickly states what I should eat for what I want to heal I put the book away for a couple days but then I started looking through it and actually reading it My attitude immediately changed While this book has a lot of pages and looks scholarly than I was hoping for the author has written it in a way that is easily understandable, interesting, and most important helpful I felt embarrassed that my first response to the book was that it had too many pages and that I didn t want to read so much.I did find the pages that list the foods that should be eaten depending on which of the five defense systems you are interested in They are in charts near the back of the book in Appendix A The five systems are Angiogenesis blood vessels and circulation , Regeneration stem cells , Microbiome healthy bacteria , DNA Protection I didn t know this was even possible , and Immunity The chapters for each of these areas goes in depth explaining why I actually found this information very interesting when I actually started reading it The book is divided into three main parts Part One explains each of the body s natural defense systems Part Two is on what to eat to beat disease Part Three is on planning, choosing, and acting It includes topics such as the 5 x 5 x 5 framework the author has created that makes it easy to incorporate these foods It also has a chapter on Exceptional Foods and Sample Meal Guide and Recipes If you are looking for information on what to eat to help our body s natural defense system this book should be one of the top ones you consider Although the book does explain how angiogenesis works, and how the microbiome is very important to overall health, the gist of the book is to eat vegetables, fruits, and fermented foods He recommends to do this 5 times daily and your body will have the tools it needs to repair itself. What if you cannot eat fermented foods I have a dairy allergy AND a mold allergy, so that leaves me out for healing my SIBO bacterial overgrowth , which he does not even mention Nor can I cure my food allergies, my thyroid or my insulin resistance I cannot drink wine without getting a headache, same with chocolate And a zillion books on state to eat a plant based diet, less sugar and less meat To quote him, There is a way to boost our own defense systems so the body will heal itself , yet he also says There is no silver bullet for any one disease.I started with the Nourishing Traditions book over 20 years ago so none of the advice was new to me I did find the angiogenesis section interesting, but he says if you are on a Paleo diet or a Keto diet, just include healthy foods from the list which is mostly plant based.
