The great work of the alchemists A fantastic journey through the history of esoteric lore The Hermetic Museum takes its readers on a magical mystery tour through the labyrinths of the imagination, spanning an arc from the mediaeval cosmogram and images of Christian mysticism, through the fascinating world of alchemy to the art of the Romantic era The enigmatic hieroglyphs of cabbalists, Rosicrucians and freemasons are shown to be closely linked with the early scientific illustrations in the fields of medicine, chemistry, optics and colour theory

Great concise book on a subject with so many tangents The price is good for the size of the book and the content, the illustrations and images inside are a nice quality too It s a nice book to flick through with a tea, I kind of wish they had a larger version though just my personal preference for these types of images Still I don t regret buying it, I m a sucker for anything Taschen does.

A nice whistle stop tour of some symbolism allegory Really nice book for an eclectic coffee table but not much detail of meaning.

This book has a huge number of pages in it, nice glossy pages, each one with colored pictures and commentary explaining what you are looking at As noted, YES the pictures are small, pick up a little magnifier for detail, the resolution is quite good and a lot of these pictures are rare The history and the story of alchemy are well told in this book that takes weeks to appreciate thoroughly I ve been through this book many times and found new things to enjoy each time. What I ve noticed many reviewers of these hard cover art books fail to note is that these books are designed to be small to take with you through museums and on the road They are sometimes available in art galleries etc at vastly marked up prices and people greatly appreciate being able to purchase them so that they can have a guide book to what they are seeing.I d ignore the critiques on these books If you can afford an enormous coffee table book and don t ever want to take the book with you anywhere then they are right, get one of the big expensive versions Those books are great if you have the money and you are strictly going to be enjoying the art adventure from your armchair These books are practical and SO affordable They have momentos of the distant past that you will enjoy having at home or on the road on your journies and that I m honored to have.

Wow If you have any interest in alchemy, or mysticism, BUY THIS Every page has full colour illustrations of manuscripts etc It has just about every key image that you would want to see in here The author has done a great deal of work here to shed light on such a dark subject.
